Listening and Reading Comprehension: the interpretive mode
In this powerpoint from the Penn FLTA orientation Dr. Kathryn K. McMahon introduces the participants to some basic principles underlying teaching the interpretive mode (particularly listening). The presentation includes an audio lesson (not included here) using two short radio news items where the pitfalls of doing an effective listening lesson are demonstrated, and where participants are led to understand the importance of background knowledge for comprehension.
